Há 4 dias · Romford, or 'Romford side', was a chapelry of the ancient parish of Hornchurch, containing five wards: town, Harold Wood, Collier Row, Noak Hill, and Havering. (fn. 2) It remained subject to Hornchurch for church purposes until the 19th century, but for civil purposes was virtually independent by the 16th century.

Há 2 dias · The manor of ROMFORD or MAWNEYS lay on the west side of the town, extending north from High Street to Collier Row. It appears to have originated in 1200, when the king granted 'the wood of Romford' to Roger Bigod (d. 1221), earl of Norfolk, in fee for 5 s . a year.

Between 1948 and 1965 one special, 11 primary, and 6 secondary schools were built, including 8 primary and 3 secondary schools on the new L.C.C. estate at Harold Hill. Two Roman Catholic primary schools were opened in 1953.

Há 6 dias · JOHN THE DIVINE, Romford, Mawney Road, originated in 1897, when an iron mission church, in Romford parish, was opened in Willow Street. (fn. 116) In 1928, after long delays, the first stage of a permanent church was opened on a new site in Mawney Road.
