Welsh courtier Owen Tudor, who was born before 1400, married Catherine of Valois twice after her first husband, King Henry V of England, passed away in 1422.
Owen Tudor, leading the Welsh rearguard, advanced slowly, hoping to engage the Yorkists' left by an outflanking manoeuvre. The battle lasted all morning and into the afternoon. A Lancastrian flanking ploy failed and the troops retreated south toward Kingsland.

Their eldest, Edmund Tudor, was made Earl of Richmond. Edmund‘s son was Henry Tudor, who would claim the kingship of England in 1485 after defeating Richard III at Bosworth Field.
