8 de mai. de 2024 · Granville Leveson-Gower (1773-1846), later 1st Earl Granville, was the second son of Granville, 1st Marquess of Stafford, by Lady Susanna Steward, daughter of the 6th Earl of Galloway. His father was a major Whig politician, and in 1799 theirs was considered the fifth-wealthiest family in the country, particularly from mining and canal tolls.

21 de mai. de 2024 · In 1819 the second Earl Grosvenor's heir, Viscount Belgrave, had married Lady Elizabeth Leveson-Gower; the wealthy couple soon had children and wanted for a substantial London house. The answer was the pair of houses in the middle of the north side of the square, which between 1822 and 1824 were transformed by the Cundys into a regular palace, at a cost of over £12,000.
