15 de jul. de 2023 · Eleven million bricks went into the construction of the Ouse Valley Railway viaduct. The bricks were shipped from the Netherlands via Lewes and Newhaven and then boated up the River Ouse to this point. Building costs were £38,500 – equivalent to approximately £3.5 million in 2020. The length of the viaduct is 450m, and its height is 29m.
20 de mar. de 2024 · Ouse Valley Viaduct is a total length of 450 metres (1,480 feet) long and 29 metres (95.14 feet) high. There are 37 semi-circular arches each spanning 9.1 metres (30 feet) which support the bridge. Each pier has a jack arch with a semi circular soffit which reduced the number of bricks required for the build.

21 de ago. de 2023 · Built between 1839 - 1842 and designed by John Urpeth Rastrick, the Ouse Valley Viaduct has been described as "the most elegant viaduct in Britain" by the National Transport Trust and it's easy to see why - as you stand beneath the viaduct, the oval shapes of it its 37 red brick arches (technically called "pierced pillars" apparently) create a dizzying optical illusion as you look through them.
