Come filologo classico, curò le edizioni di Manilio ( 1903 - 30 ), di Giovenale ( 1905) e di Lucano ( 1926 ).

He was inquisitive, quiet and studious – with a passion for learning Greek and Latin. He also wrote poetry, for which he won several school prizes.
