In the autumn of 1934, the year following Margaret Quiller Couch's funeral, Dorothy Penneck Couch married Fritz Carl Langer, a German merchant born in Herne, but living in Java, Indonesia. They had two children, Dorette, born in 1935 but who died aged only four in 1940, and Richard John Penneck Langer, born in 1937.
These lectures tell us a great deal about Q’s ideas on education, literature, reading and child development. They also reflect his fears for the future of liberal democracy. In the lectures Q argued for the importance of a liberal education system, with great literature at its centre. Only this could bring balance and perspective, he believed.

John Quiller Couch completes his medical training at Guy’s hospital and as a surgeon apothecary moves to Penzance to establish a medical practice near his brother Richard. Arthur Quiller-Couch. Thomas Q. Couch marries Mary Ford of Abbotskerswell. Richard Q. Couch dies in Penzance aged forty-seven.
Auch an der Edition verschiedener Anthologien war Sir Arthur maßgeblich beteiligt, die zum Teil heute noch in Gebrauch sind – insbesondere das Oxford Book of English Verse, ebenso an der Herausgabe kostbar illustrierter Märchen-Sammlungen. Im Alter von 80 Jahren starb Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch am 12. Mai 1944 in Fowey.
