Edward Pickering was born on July 19, 1846, in Boston, Mass., of a distinguished New England family. After studying at Boston Latin School, he attended Lawrence Scientific School, graduating summa cum laude in 1865.

Edward Charles Pickering (* 19. Juli 1846 in Boston; † 3. Februar 1919 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) war ein amerikanischer Astronom und Physiker, Bruder von William Henry Pickering . Zusammen mit Hermann Karl Vogel entdeckte Pickering die ersten Doppelsterne, die nur spektroskopisch identifiziert werden konnten.
Edward Charles Pickering (July 19, 1846 – February 3, 1919) was an American astronomer and physicist and the older brother to William Henry Pickering. He served as the fourth director of the Harvard College Observatory from 1877 to his death in 1919.
