Mindaugas was a ruler of Lithuania, considered the founder of the Lithuanian state. He was also the first Lithuanian ruler to become a Christian. Mindaugas successfully asserted himself over other leading Lithuanian nobles and tribal chiefs, including his brother and his nephews, in 1236.

Even before his death, Mindaugas is was accused of abandoning Christianity and reverting back to pagan faith. 21 de mai. de 2018 · As “Grand Duke” in 1236, Mindaugas was the first in a line of rulers of the “Grand Duchy of Lithuania” which continued well beyond his reign, lasting from 1236 – 1795. Mindaugas’ move to be baptised helped him create an alliance with what was known as the Livonian Order. Crowned the summer of 1253 alongside his wife Morta, King Mindaugas ruled somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 people. The ecclesiastical ceremonies at the time were overseen by Bishop Henry Heidenreich of Kulm.
