Mark Anthony Peter Phillips CVO ADC OLY (born 22 September 1948) is an English Olympic gold medal-winning horseman for Great Britain and the first husband of Anne, Princess Royal, with whom he has two children.
Mark Phillips was born on 5 October 1961, in Georgetown, Guyana at the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation (GPHC) to parents Medford Phillips and Cynthia Alexander. At age 5, his parents moved to Christianburg, Linden where his father was a mason who worked in the bauxite industry, at the time DEMBA.
Captain Mark Phillips of the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards was educated at Marlborough and the RMC Sandhurst. After being selected as a reserve for the 1968 Olympics, his first major success came in 1970 when he was a member of the British three-day event team that won the World Championship in Chicago.
