Francis George Baring, 2nd Earl of Northbrook (8 December 1850 – 12 April 1929), styled Viscount Baring from 1876 to 1904, was a British politician. Early life [ edit ] Northbrook was the eldest and only surviving son of Thomas Baring, 1st Earl of Northbrook , and his wife Elizabeth Harriett Sturt, daughter of Henry Charles Sturt and sister of Henry Sturt, 1st Baron Alington .
Thomas George Baring, 1st Earl of Northbrook GCSI, PC, FRS (22 January 1826 – 15 November 1904), was a British Liberal politician and statesman. He was Viceroy of India between 1872 and 1876 and First Lord of the Admiralty between 1880 and 1885.

His major accomplishments came as an energetic reformer who was dedicated to upgrading the quality of government in the British Raj .
