Os nobres realistas organizaram uma contrarrevolução, colocando Carlos II no trono, acabando com a República e realizando a Restauração Monárquica. Era o fim da República Puritana.

The fate of the country was settled by the new parliament which immediately voted in favour of the monarchy.
