  2. Alice Barnham (née Bradbridge) (1523-1604) was an English silk merchant, and a leading figure in the London silk trade from the 1560s onward. She is chiefly remembered for commissioning a family portrait in 1557 which is one of the earliest family portraits of English origins.

  3. The inquisition, post mortem for Alice's father, Sheriff Benedict Barnham, is held in the British Record Office. In that document are included the ages of his five children at the time of his death. Alice's age is there shown as 5 years, 10 months, 13 days. Since her father died on 4 April 1598, Alice's birth date may be calculated as 22 May 1592.
