Johanna van der Gheynst dochter van een tapijtwever uit de omgeving van Oudenaarde schonk in 1522 het leven aan een dochter de latere Margaretha van Parma. Canneels werken zijn sober hij had oog voor detail maar zijn historisch realisme is in tegenstelling tot dat van Henri Leys altijd ondergeschikt aan het verhaal.
26 de abr. de 2022 · Johanna Maria van der Gheynst was the daughter of the carpet manufacturer Gilles Johan van der Gheynst and his wife Johanna van der Caye van Cocambi. Her parents lived at Nukerke near Oudenaarde. She entered the service of Charles I de Lalaing, Governor of Oudenaarde and Seigneur of Montigny.
In 1522, Johanna van der Gheynst, the daughter of a tapestry-weaver in the region of Oudenaarde, gave birth to a daughter who later became Margaret of Parma. Canneel’s work is sober, with an eye for detail, but unlike Henry Leys, his historic realism is always secondary to the story.
