LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts has a long history of producing many of the most notable artists. Alumni have gone on to Broadway, television, dance, art, and almost every facet of the music world. Graduates from Music & Art, Performing Arts and LaGuardia have gone on to successful careers in the arts and beyond.
The High School of Music & Art was founded by Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia in 1936. He wanted to establish a public school in which students could hone their talents in music, art and the performing arts. In 1948, a similar institution – the High School of Performing Arts – was created in an effort to harness students' talents in dance.
Side by Side. High school and TWIGS students learn directly from working artists during their classes. And thanks to numerous partnerships with local arts organizations, our students learn from and perform with professionals at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Walters, Center Stage, the Maryland Historical Society, and JHU’s film program, to name just a few.
