Emily Lady Tennyson died on 10 August 1896 at Aldworth House, near Haslemere, Surrey. Emily, Lady Tennyson, widow of the Poet Laureate, died at Aldworth, Surrey, recently, of congestion of the lungs. She was the daughter of Mr. Henry Sellwood, of Somersby, Lord Tennyson's birthplace, And a niece of Sir John Franklin, the famous Arctic explorer.
Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson with his wife Emily and his sons Hallam and Lionel. In the second half of his life Tennyson’s fortune and popularity flourished as over the next forty years he produced many of his most popular works, such as Enoch Arden and The Charge of the Light Brigade and was awarded a barony in 1883, taking a seat in the House of Lords the year after.

Emilia Tennyson. Emilia Tennyson (1811–1887), known simply as Emily within her family, was a younger sister of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and the fiancée of Arthur Henry Hallam, for whom Tennyson's poem, In Memoriam A.H.H., was written. Emilia met Hallam through her brother, and they became engaged in 1832.
Emily est une fervente admiratrice de l'œuvre de son mari tout en employant son propre talent à l'écriture de paroles pour des musiques. Après la mort de celui-ci en 1892, Lady Tennyson se consacre à aider son fils pour l'écriture de sa biographie. Elle est enterrée au All Saints' Church, de Freshwater, sur l' Ile de Wight .
