In 1989, the two colleges merged to form Central Saint Martins. We welcomed Drama Centre London in 1999 and the Byam Shaw School of Art in 2003. In 2011, we moved to our award-winning building in King’s Cross, where all of these elements now flourish and collide under one roof.
13 de abr. de 2024 · Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design was formed in 1989 from the merger of the Central School of Art and Design, founded in 1896, and Saint Martin's School of Art, founded in 1854. [4] [5] Since 1986 both schools had been part of the London Institute , formed by the Inner London Education Authority to bring together seven London art, design, fashion and media schools. [6]
Postgraduate courses at Central Saint Martins are where the next set of ideas and methods in particular disciplines are forged. We lead not follow. Steeped in a research environment, our postgraduate courses and students develop the agendas as to where the creative industries and intellectual debate might go next.
Our programmes share an approach of exploring the boundaries of their discipline. Our students and staff are continually curious and always restless in developing beyond the accepted norms of their subject, so the work emerging from Central Saint Martins is at the forefront of its area.
