Tintoretto morì nel 1594, dopo aver sofferto di forti dolori allo stomaco e febbre, anche se la causa della morte è a tutt'oggi sconosciuta. Fu sepolto nella chiesa della Madonna dell'Orto a Venezia, accanto alla figlia Marietta che morì nel 1590 all'età di 30 anni.
