Up until last year the school was called Savio Salesian Academy and its future was uncertain as the school was faced with Inadequate Ofsted judgements, low outcomes, falling rolls and a building that was not fit for purpose.

The Salesian Academy of St John Bosco is a non-selective, Roman Catholic academy. It has about 500 boys and girls aged between 11 and 16. Ofsted last inspected the school in September 2022. The present school opened in 2023.
