John Mills had previously depicted HG Wells' hapless hero Alfred Polly in the 1949 film The History of Mr Polly, but director Gillies MacKinnon remade it for ITV in 2007 to showcase comedian Lee Evans' dramatic skills. It's the turn of the century and gentle Alfred Polly, a natural dreamer since childhood, takes on both a business and a wife.
