The track was released on 13 November 2006 and Bunton premiered her version of "Downtown" on the 2006 Children in Need telethon which began broadcast 17 November 2006. Although Bunton said that she knew "Downtown" composer Tony Hatch "quite well", Petula Clark said that neither she [i.e. Clark] nor Hatch had prior knowledge of Bunton's remake.

Em 13 de novembro de 2006, Emma Bunton volta para a música e lança o primeiro single de seu novo álbum Life in Mono, a regravação de "Downtown" da cantora Petula Clark, de 1964. O single foi o tema de 2006 para a campanha beneficente Children in Need, que ajuda crianças carentes.
