John Fox Burgoyne. Field Marshall Sir John Fox Burgoyne, Bart, GCB, (1782-1871) the son of General Burgoyne. The boy's second name was given to him by his godfather, his father's steadfast friend, the well· known Charles James Fox. 1839 General (J. F.) Burgoyne of the Board of Public Works, became a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Lady Charlotte died in June 1776 and was buried with her daughter in the cloister. John himself died in Mayfair on 4th August 1792 and was buried with them on 13 August. His coffin-plate described him as:

Field Marshall Sir John Fox Burgoyne, 1st Baronet GCB, was a senior British Army Officer. He was born on the 24 July 1782. He was the illegitimate son of General John Burgoyne and opera singer Susan Caulfield. He was educated at Eton and Woolwich, obtained his commission in 1798 and was gazetted to the Royal Engineers.
