"Hill Street Blues" was set in a fictional city, with the Producer, Steven Bochco, himself stating that it was a "hybrid of Chicago, Buffalo and Pittsburgh". However, during the series, there were a couple of location-specific giveaways that suggested it was probably Chicago.
