13 de jul. de 2011 · In German there is not a single "proper" way to write letters in handwriting. There are regional variations (see here for details). For schools in Germany there are federal regulations that define how pupils learn to write. Most widely used are the "Lateinische Ausgangsschrift" and the "Vereinfachte Ausgangsschrift".
ß. Examples of letter ß. The letter ß (also known as sharp S, German: Eszett or scharfes S) is a letter in the German alphabet. It is the only German letter that is not part of the basic Latin alphabet. The letter is pronounced [s] (like the "s" in "see") and is not used in any other language.

The letter ẞ (upper-case variant of ß) was added to Unicode in 2008 and may not appear correctly on older operating systems. (Non-German-speakers: Please do not refer to ß as “German b” – it is pronounced like s, so “German s” is more correct. The official names are eszett or scharfes S [sharp s].)
The letter »ß« is unique to the German language. It is a called »scharfes s« (sharp s) or »sz«. If the letter is not available (or if it is capitalized) the »ß« is replaced by a »ss« (double s). In LaTeX use a »\ss«, with the babel package and the option german the short form is »"s«. In HTML you can use »ß«.

In caps-only typesetting the ß would be set as SZ in the beginning of the 20th century, but later SS became more common and finally the only correct spelling—until the introduction of the capital sharp s.
