23 de out. de 2020 · And perhaps that is how John Malcolm Fleming Thorpe Churchill came to be known as “Mad Jack.” In September 1939, as the Germans made a lemming-like rush towards the Polish border, a 43-year-old Churchill, a former graduate of the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, rejoined his old Manchester Regiment after his initial retirement in 1936.
Churchill is believed to have carried out the very last recorded longbow and arrow killing in action, and was known to carry a sword. Mad Jack was born John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill in 1906 in the British colony of Ceylon. He moved to Hong Kong at the age of four and then settled in England in 1917.

This was theinfamous moment when Churchill took out his longbow and shot one of the enemies before his squadmates opened fire with the more traditional machine guns.
