Friedrich Schlegel (1772–1829) was born in Hanover in 1772. His father, Johann Adolf Schlegel (1721–93), was a Protestant pastor and literary theorist, whose ideas are of some significance for his son's development (for example, he held the interestingly radical view that the number of literary genres that were possible was infinite).

Karl Wilhelm Friedrich von Schlegel (Hanôver, 10 de março de 1772 - Dresden, 12 de janeiro de 1829) foi um poeta, crítico literário, filósofo, filólogo, indologista e tradutor alemão liberal. Irmão mais novo do também filósofo August Wilhelm Schlegel, participou da primeira fase do Romantismo na literatura alemã, conhecida como Frühromantik ou Romantismo de Jena.
