Elle met notamment en avant les contraintes et les libertés à l’égard de la représentation des femmes au XIXème siècle. La beauté de ses tirages, à une époque pourtant très restrictive pour leur condition, en font des modèles de choix.

Ze werd bekend vanwege haar portretten van bekende personen en mythologische scènes. Cameron kreeg toen ze 48 jaar oud was een camera cadeau en begon daarna haar fotografische carrière.

Her father James Pattle was a well-respected official working for the East India Company. Her mother, Adeline Pattle was the daughter of French Royalists.
