An American Tail looks good but the tale itself, as conceived by David Kirschner for the screenplay by Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss, is witless if well-meaning. It's mostly bland, though every now and then it rises to express its own brand of kiddie-bigotry.
Or so they thought. An American Tail follows the story of a young mouse named Fivel who must navigate New York City to find his family. The biggest highlight of the film is the animation as it was beautifully done. Fluid of movement and attention to detail. With the addition of rich backgrounds and expressive character designs.
