Peter Lorre Ladislav “László” Lowenstein (1904-1964) nasceu em Rózsahegy (Austria-Hungria) hoje Ruzômberok, Eslováquia. Interrompendo seu emprego em um estabelecimento bancário para uma carreira no palco, Lorre trabalhou em teatros de Breslau (hoje Wroclaw, Polonia), Zurich e Viena desde 1924.

Peter Lorre (Império Austro-Húngaro, atual Eslováquia, 26 de junho de 1904 - Hollywood, Estados Unidos, 23 de março de 1964) foi um ator de cinema e teatro austríaco de origem húngara e ascendência judia.
Moreno gave him his stage name Peter Lorre before he became a cast member of Leo Mittler's Lobe-Theater and Thalia Theater in Breslau in 1924. In 1925/26, Lorre performed at Zürich's Schauspielhaus, from 1926 to 1927, he played at Kammerspiele Vienna, and in 1928, he went to Vienna's Carl-Theater.
