Desmond de Silva was of Sri Lankan and Anglo-Scottish origins and comes from a family of lawyers.
She married Lt.-Col. the Rt. Hon. Sir George Frederick Stanley, son of Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby and the Lady Constance Villiers, on the 26th of November 1903. They were married at St. George Hanover Square, London, England. She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)
