I did however buy @ amazon in 3/14 a book described as "History of Friedrich II of Prussia, Called Frederick The Great (1858-65) by Thomas Carlyle" (no longer listed) which was *not* in fact that multiple-volume book but an *excerpt* consisting of "Volume V".

He was cheered “Der Alte Fritz” (The Old Fritz) whenever he was on the street. Frederick the Great died in 1786. He was succeeded by his nephew Frederick William II.
