Originally founded at Clemson University in 2000, the Call Me MiSTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role models) program strives to increase the pool of available teachers from a more diverse background, particularly among the State's lowest-performing elementary schools.
Call Me MiSTER. Through Call Me MiSTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models), students from backgrounds that are under-represented in the teaching profession can receive financial, educational, and social support in order to complete any of our programs that serve students in grades kindergarten through the eighth grade.
The first Call Me MiSTER cohort began at the UIC College of Education in Fall 2018. Call Me MiSTER requires a deep commitment to becoming an elementary school teacher. The support from the College of Education is meant to encourage and develop the passion of teaching, and includes:
Call Me MISTER is a highly competitive program that seeks to increase the applicant pool of qualified male teachers from diverse, underserved, socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. The program prepares them for impactful careers as elementary, middle, or high school teachers in the state’s lowest-performing pre-K-12 schools, working with educationally at-risk pre-K-12 students.
