Where does Upstate begin? Jon Campbell: Oh, it's my life's work. I'm going to answer it someday, but it is this topic that I have taken great delight in the last seven to eight years of really trolling people on social media and asking and highlighting when somebody has a Upstate New York definition in, say, a news article or something like that because there is no answer.

Then, when I left NY State to go to college, I quickly learned that calling southern Dutchess County "upstate" was fine for anyone from the NYC metro area, but confusing to most everyone else--and was met with scorn by anyone who was from farther north and northwest.

I'd love to know what not only New Yorkers think, but others as well. Personally, I think the line is I-84. Rockland and Westchester are definitely downstate, but parts of Orange, etc. could be too.
18 de jun. de 2022 · They are impervious to the cold of the winter, gluttons in the bashful blooming summers. They are not "upstate," they're just visiting. Their friends back in NYC visited them last weekend, and they won't stop raving about "upstate"—which is right by Canada.
