Medical Professionals. ACS announces new guideline for colorectal cancer screening for adults at average risk. In an announcement published in late May, the American Cancer Society released a new guideline recommending that regular screening for colorectal cancer should begin at age 45 for adults at average risk.

Getting to or doing more than the upper limit of 300 minutes is ideal. Children and teens: Get at least 1 hour of moderate or vigorous intensity activity every day.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) provides an annual report for health care professionals and the public that summarizes the current ACS cancer screening guidelines, including current recommendations and updates, and guidance related to early cancer detection when a direct recommendation for screening cannot be made.

The earliest stage of colorectal cancers is called stage 0 (a very early cancer), and then range from stages I (1) through IV (4). As a rule, the lower the number, the less the cancer has spread. A higher number, such as stage IV, means cancer has spread more. And within a stage, an earlier letter means a lower stage.
