For the dramatic monologue, “Ulysses,” Tennyson borrows a character from classical Greek literature, the Odyssey. Tennyson portrays the main character Ulysses (the Latin version of the Greek name Odysseus) after he has returned home from his 20-year voyage following the Trojan War.

5 de nov. de 2022 · Ulysses, written by the Victorian poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, is one of his greatest and noblest poems. It was written in October, 1833, soon after Tennyson heard of the death of his close friend Arthur Hallam in Vienna. He was then completely broken down and very much upset. In Tennyson’s words –.

Most Illinois voters want Blagojevich to resign too—a few weeks ago, according to one poll, 84% did. If only the governor read his Tennyson closely, he might have learned what Ulysses already knew.
Tennyson’s “Ulysses” made its first publication in Poems (1842). The poem was written a few weeks after the death of a close college friend Arthur Henry Hallaman.
