20 de fev. de 2009 · Although Stendhal syndrome has been well described in the Italian scientific literature 2 and has caught the imagination of the popular media (see, for example, the Wikipedia entry for Stendhal syndrome or the film “The Stendhal syndrome” by Dario Argento), there has been little attention to this area by scientific journals in English.
Stendhal syndrome is a condition characterized by the confluence of different symptoms, both physical and mental, when in the presence of a beautiful piece of art. The term was coined in 1989 by Italian psychiatrist, Graziella Magherini, in honor of the nineteenth century romantic writer Marie-Henri Beyle, widely known by his pseudonym “Stendhal” 1 1.
