11 de out. de 2023 · History in Oxford stretches from c 300 to the present, and embraces in addition to its British and European heritage an exceptionally broad range of World history. It comprises an active research community of up to 800 senior academics and graduate students, all contributing to a range of research seminars, lectures, academic societies, and personal contacts.

14 de mar. de 2021 · In 1377 John Wycliffe was expelled from Oxford University after he criticized some of the church’s teachings. Then in 1379 William of Wykeham who lived from 1324 to 1404 founded New College. After 1410 students were forbidden to lodge with townspeople and had to live in halls of colleges. Eventually, colleges replaced most of the halls.
Faculty of History. Medieval and modern history has been studied at Oxford for longer than at almost any other university: a Regius Professor of Modern History was first appointed in 1724, and undergraduate examinations began in 1850. The History Faculty has more than 90 permanent academic staff. Of these, 15 are statutory Professors, or Readers.
