West of England is a combined authority area in South West England, around the River Avon. It is made up of the Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Bath and North East Somerset unitary authorities. The combined authority is led by the Mayor of the West of England Dan Norris. [1] [2] [3] The city of Bristol is the region's largest population centre.
While I think the article name should remain South West England (because that's what most people will think of it as), the emboldened part of the opening paragraph should read ‘South West (or Government Office for the South West) is one of the regions of England. . . ’ since the word England does not form part of its title.
Girlguiding South West England is one of the nine Countries and Regions of Girlguiding UK. It is further subdivided into 16 Girlguiding Counties and Islands. [1] These are generally not the same as the counties defined by the British government, and in this Region, two of the Islands, Guernsey and Jersey, are not even part of the United Kingdom.
