1 de abr. de 2021 · Just three weeks after she’d first reached out to the renowned surgeon, Griggs found a letter in her mailbox postmarked Trinidad, Colorado, from the offices of Dr. Stanley Biber. She braced herself. Biber’s response was, she says, “a pleasant shock.”
When Stanley Biber retired in 2003 at the age of 80, Bowers took over his practice, and since then, has done more than 2000 genital reassignment surgeries, performing as many as 12 gender affirming surgeries weekly.
In 2000, she became friends with Dr. Stanley Biber, one of the few surgeons at that time who performed gender-affirming surgery, who lived in the small town of Trinidad, Colorado, but was known around the world for his skill. When Dr. Biber retired a few years later, Dr. Bowers took over his surgical practice.
Dr. Bowers left Seattle in 2003 to apprentice with the legendary Dr. Stanley Biber, considered the “Father of Transgender Surgery.” In 2010, Marci relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area community of Burlingame, CA. She has now performed more than 2250 primary MTF Vaginoplasties and 3900 Gender Affirming Surgeries overall.
