Admiral of the Fleet John Cronyn Tovey, 1st Baron Tovey GCB KBE DSO (7 March 1885 – 12 January 1971), sometimes known as Jack Tovey, was a Royal Navy officer. During the First World War he commanded the destroyer HMS Onslow at the Battle of Jutland and then commanded the destroyer HMS Ursa at the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight .

John Tovey est né le 7 mars 1885 à Borley Hill, Rochester, Kent. Il est le plus jeune enfant (sur onze) de Halmilton Tovey ( lieutenant colonel au Royal Engineers) et de Maria Elisabeth Goodhue. Il est scolarisé à la Durnford School à Langton Matravers sur l' Île de Purbeck, puis au Britannia Royal Naval College comme aspirant.
