24 de mai. de 2024 · Spencer Perceval (1762-1812) was British Prime Minister from 1809 until his death in 1812. A lawyer by training and an evangelical christian by belief, Perceval first entered Parliament in 1796 as MP for Northampton and thereafter experienced a rapid rise to power, becoming Solicitor-General in 1801 and Attorney-General in 1802.
Spencer Perceval var en yngre søn af den irske adelsmand John Perceval (1711–1770), der var den 2. jarl af Egmont. I modsætning til de fleste af datidens britiske premierministre blev Perceval aldrig adlet. I 1930'erne arvede Spencer Percevals efterkommere titlen som jarl af Egmont. En titel, som de beholdt, indtil den 12. jarl døde i 2011.
