The Young Philadelphians had all the ingredients to become the most horrid American melodrama, in the worst 1950's style. Instead, it was cooked up to be one of the fine 1950's movies. William Lawrence III (Adam West) was not, indeed could not be, the father of young Tony (Paul Newman).

The Young Philadelphians is my mother's all time favorite movie. She adores Paul Newman and this is her favorite of all his movies. It's rare and very hard to find on DVD. We bought 2 copies just to have a spare. She is 92 and has dementia but pop in The Young Philadelphians and all is right in her world again! The quality is good.
