Way Down East (Brasil: Inocente Pecadora) é um filme norte-americano de romance e drama de 1935 dirigido por Henry King, estrelado por Rochelle Hudson e Henry Fonda, além de Slim Summerville, Margaret Hamilton, Andy Devine e Spring Byington.
Way down East most noticeable feature is the scene toward the end of the film which was shot on location in a blizzard on a thawing river in Vermont. While the heroin (Lilian Gish) is drifting unconscious on a piece of ice towards rapids, her beloved (Richard Barthelmess) runs towards her jumping between pieces of ice and saves her just before she reaches the waterfall.
D. W. Griffith bought the film rights to the story, originally a stage play by Lottie Blair Parker that was elaborated by Joseph R. Grismer. Grismer's wife, the Welsh actress Phoebe Davies, became identified with the play beginning in 1897 and starred in over 4,000 performances of it by 1909, making it one of the most popular plays in the United States.

In 1919, D.W. Griffith co-founded United Artists as a way to have more creative control. His films that followed are less famous (and notorious) than his earlier work, but Way Down East, one of his biggest successes, is a true gem, with an unforgettable climax on the ice.
