Circuit in Washington, D.C., and a Visiting Professor at NYU School of Law. Before joining the bench in 1980, Judge Edwards practiced law in Chicago, Illinois, and then was a tenured Professor of Law at the University of Michigan and Harvard Law Schools.

Edwards grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois as the second child in a family of eight children. He attended the newly integrated East St. Louis Senior High School where he excelled in sports.
