In today's "on this day in Tudor history", I take us back to the reign of Queen Mary I. On 12 February 1554, Lady Jane Grey, formerly Queen Jane, and her husband Guildford Dudley were executed.
John Dudley, who since early 1550 effectively ruled England, was pleased to strengthen his influence in Norfolk by his son's marriage. Lord Robert, as he was styled as a duke's son, became an important local gentleman and served as a Member of Parliament for Norfolk in 1551–52, March 1553 and 1559. His court career went on in parallel.
27 de mai. de 2022 · Born in March 1537, Guildford Dudley was the fourth surviving son of John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland and Lady Jane Guildford. Northumberland ruled the regency council while King Edward VI was a minor. The Spanish diplomat Don Diego de Mendoza arrived in England in May 1537 and agreed to act as godfather to Guildford.

Guilford was een zoon van John Dudley, hertog van Northumberland, uit diens huwelijk met Jane Guildford, dochter van Sir Edward Guildford.
On February 12 1554, Guildford was executed and, unlike his wife, he was not very calm when he went to his death. Days before his death, he cried endlessly. However, on the day he was executed, he was calm. At the sight of the block, however, he lost his courage and cried again. He is said to have cried "Pray for me!"
