Longtemps connu pour son alcoolisme, Shane MacGowan avait été hospitalisé en 2016 après s'être brisé le bassin suite à une chute. Son épouse avait alors révélé qu’il était enfin devenu sobre. En décembre 2022, il était de nouveau admis à l’hôpital, souffrant d’une encéphalite dont il est finalement décédé ce jeudi.

The funeral cortège made its way through Dublin, where MacGowan lived with his wife Victoria Mary Clarke, before departing for Co Tipperary.
