Thank you for visiting the website of the Chapel of Worcester College, Oxford. Chapel is a place to sit, to breathe, to pray, to worship, to take time and be a little bit more human again. It is always open, always there, and you don’t need permission to open the door and go in.
Many of my happiest recreational memories of Worcester stem from my membership of the Boat Club and time spent on the river. My time at Worcester College gave me opportunities I would never have had otherwise, the confidence to succeed in my chosen field, and lasting friendships that I treasure to this day.
Worcester attracts less visitors than some of the other Oxford colleges, such as Christ Church and Magdalen, but it really is worth a detour. Upon entering the college one is greeted by the stunning front quad, with immaculate lawns and gorgeous stonework at its best in the summer sun.
The Worcester College we know today was founded in 1714 with a benefaction of £10,000 by the Worcestershire baronet Sir Thomas Cookes (bap.1648-1701) and is Oxford’s only surviving eighteenth-century foundation.
Spend three years of your undergraduate degree in our haven in the heart of Oxford. Unlike many other colleges, all the accommodation at Worcester is within the main College site or no more than 300 metres from the perimeter.
Worcester is also home to the ever-expanding Eland Collection of books on architectural history (bequeathed by Cyril Eland in 1995) and the Vigornienses collection of books by and about our alumni (named for the College’s Latin moniker).
