  7. In 1838 Spring Hill College was set up in Birmingham for non-conformists precluded from an Oxbridge education by a pre-condition of adherence to the Church of England. Only after the University Tests Act 1871 removed this discrimination Spring Hill moved to Oxford in 1886 and was renamed Mansfield College.
