Rich's contributions to multi-artist compilations have been collected on his solo albums A Troubled Resting Place (1996) and Below Zero (1998). He also records with his group, Amoeba , exploring atmospheric songcraft on their CDs Watchful (1997) and Pivot (2000).
Robert Rich’s “Below Zero” marks his second collection of dark-ambient compilation tracks, following the 1996 Fathom release “A Troubled Resting Place.” Like the previous album, Rich conceived “Below Zero” while recording each track individually for release on compilations and limited editions, using these oportunities to research new vocabularies and techniques.

Other methods included feedback techniques similar to those that I used on Troubled Resting Place and Below Zero. I recorded and mixed the album at 24 bit resolution, through the Mackie d8b digital mixer, and downsampled to CD at the final stage of mastering.
