Mob Quad in Merton College is probably the oldest quadrangle in Oxford. The quad is so old, it actually doesn’t have any chimneys! (they weren’t in widespread use in England then). Merton College was established in the 1260s. In the 1270 construction began for the hall, the chapel, the library and Mob Quad (which accommodates students).

Merton College is the oldest at Oxford, established in 1264. It has matriculated Nobel laureates and other luminaries like the American poet TS Elliott, William Harvey (the early 17C physician who first described the circulation of blood), and Sir Thomas Bodley (who established Oxford 's famed Bodlien Library in 1602).
