Rosalind nació en 16 Grovesnor Street, Londres, el 12 de agosto de 1921, la mayor de los tres hijos de Roland Calvert Cubitt (1899–1962) y su mujer Sonia Rosemary Cubitt, (nacida Keppel; 1900–1986). Su padre fue el hijo de Henry Cubitt, II Barón Ashcombe, y se convirtió en el III Barón de Ashcombe tras su muerte.
Sonia Rosemary Cubitt, OBE (née Keppel, previously The Hon. Mrs. Cubitt; 24 May 1900 – 16 August 1986) was a British socialite, author and aristocrat. She was the first wife of Roland Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe and through her only daughter Rosalind, was the maternal grandmother of Queen Camilla.
On 16 November 1920 he married Sonia Rosemary Keppel, daughter of the hon. George Keppel and his wife Alice Keppel, at the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks, in London. They were divorced in 1947 after having three children: Rosalind Maud Cubitt (1921–1994) m. Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand and had three children:
Ten years later when Bertie -- King Edward VII -- died, his widow Queen Alexandra, mindful of the sexual link between her husband and Mrs Keppel, returned the cigarette case to her. In 1936, Mrs Keppel asked Bertie's daughter-in-law Queen Mary to accept it as a gift. It is now in the permanent royal collection of pieces by Faberge.
